Our lease that is.... Our lease is up in september, on the first. And we have said from the day that we signed out original lease on our apartment that we are going to resign for another year so that we are in our apartment for 2 years. Why?
- To pay off more debts, we are doing awesome so far.
- to work on a down payment for a house
- because we haven't found a house we LOVE yet. (I am not spending $200,000 or whatever amount of money on a house if I am not obsessed with it)
- We ultimately want to build a house, why buy one just to have one when we can build the one we love....see bullet #3.
- we aren't 100% what area of KC we want to live in
- I love our apartment ( I just wish it had more storage space)
I must admit Pinterest (while I LOVE that website) has me in a pickle. It shows me pictures of things in houses I didn't know I could ever have. Most of those things I can create in almost any house. Things like painting and color schemes
and flooring
Other things I would love to have that not any ole house will come with, like an awesome open layout
with a fantastic staircase that isn't in your face when you walk in the front door.
3 car garage,
with a workspace for Taylor
an upstairs laundry room,
a large master suite,
a decent size kitchen,
a man cave in the basement,
a great family space
and plenty of bedrooms.
Who doesn't want a house that looks like all of these pictures (which by the way are all from my pinterest board) But what is to say I can't create alot of that with the right layout? I mean it would take me one crafternoon to hang a chandelier in my laundry room and paint it a soft turquoise and put up a cute shelf. We could add some great tools to the back of any garage and park in the driveway for an afternoon or two so Taylor can have a workshop. We can save up for 1 large TV in our basement family room (not the whole 20 TV thing I have shown but that is so sweet!) You just have to have a great shell of a house, a sturdy, sound, in good shape layout....Problem is.... NOTHING in kansas city has a fantastic layout unless you spend 3.5 million dollars. UGH
This is what I want ^^^^^^^ A medium size craftsman style house with a great layout that I can use as my blank canvas, That I can throw some deep mocha paint and white crown molding onto down the road when I can afford it and some great comfy couches. And a few used wooden palates to make a neat rustic coffee table and unique wall shelf out of.
And my choices in kansas city consist of this...Front to back split level, side to side split level or ranches. All great houses but really not my cup of tea.
Now, I have recently heard I am a bit of a snob when it comes to housing and where I would like to live, I have champaigne taste on a sam's choice diet dr. thunder kinda budget. Don't get me wrong, I grew up in the cutest little cape cod 3 bedroom house in Prairie Village.
It's adorable but even those houses (because of location) are out of our price range, they go for like $250,000 when you can get something triple the size, literally, just a bit farther south. My parents house is strait out of pottery barn because of it's age and the way my mom has decorated it. You can do alot with beat up old wooden floors from 1945. But it has a great shell! Taylor is so handy if we can have a great shell we can work miracles between the two of us.
But again, why spend the time, effort, money, stress, money, money, money on a house that I don't love. I love my apartment, it's not where I want to spend the rest of my life but it's our home and it's sweet and cute and well decorated and spacious and it's home. I can't decide if I should lower my standards a little bit or hold out for awhile for the custom build semi-dream house in a year or two or a house with a great layout to pop up on the market....decisions decisions...and as I started typing this, I open today's devotional.....
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMMORROW. Thanks God, got me again, and with that, I'll stick to pinterest and prayer and figure it out later.
